FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need a reservation to visit the ranch?

All of our tours, events and classes require a reservation and payment in advance so that we can guarantee your group a time slot and the tour/class can begin on time. We do not accept drop-ins as we are a working farm and are taking care of our animals and the ranch during our time outside of scheduled events. Please plan ahead as we often book out a month or more in advance.

We require 48 hours advanced notification before your scheduled visit time in order to offer you a refund for your cancellation. Your refund will be for the total amount you paid minus booking fees.  We require 48 hours notice to allow those on our waiting list enough time to fill your time slot.

We have a large, spacious barn and a covered patio so all of our tours are “Rain or Shine.” In the event of thunderstorms or dangerous driving conditions, we will assist you in rescheduling your event to a time that’s convenient for you.

Please wear whatever makes you the most comfortable for your visit to the ranch.  You will most likely see us wearing jeans, t-shirts and mud boots during your tour as this fits our style while we are working.  Whatever you choose, we do highly recommend wearing closed toed shoes or something that you don’t mind getting a little dirty.  Depending on the current weather, it may also be wise to bring sunscreen and sunglasses.

Our private “Alpaca Experience” tour pricing is per group.  From 1-4 guests is $60 for the group.  From 5-7 guests is $80 for the group.  And groups from 8-10 guests is $100 per group.  Additional guests can be added when booking for $10 per person.

We want each group that visits the ranch to have our undivided attention and to have the animals to themselves for the duration of your private tour time.  This is an immersive experience with an incredible group of animals.  You will learn a lot about the history of alpacas and the different personalities of our herd in particular.  All of your questions will be answered as we want you to feel like you are an alpaca expert when your tour is complete.  We find that groups are able to totally relax on these private tours, which aligns with our goal of our ranch being a place of wellness.

Infants and children under the age of 2 are always free at the ranch.  Children aged 2 and above will need a paid ticket for our tours and events.

Please plan to arrive at the ranch 5-10 minutes before your scheduled time. The gate will typically be opened 15 minutes prior to your tour or event.  When you arrive please drive down the long driveway past the barn and park anywhere up the hill on the asphalt parking pad.  Once we are finished with the tour prior to yours, we will greet your group in front of the barn and will start your tour promptly at your tour time as we have a rolling schedule of events throughout the day.

We do have a full-sized, climate controlled farm store that is open year round and is available to guests at the end of tours, events and classes.  During the end of the year holiday season, we also have regular farm hours for a unique shopping experience.  The store features handcrafted items made from luxurious alpaca fiber (socks, beanies, scarves, blankets, ponchos, hipster hats, hand puppets, dryer balls, figurines & nesting balls) as well as Lost Mountain Alpaca Ranch branded apparel.  We do not sell food and beverages in the store.

We do have various educational curriculums and do host a lot of preschool groups, school field trips and homeschool programs.  Our curriculums are based on age and can focus on the history of alpacas, the use of alpaca fiber, growing crops and wildflowers, etc. We also have the option to add on to the visit with extra time for a craft or for a picnic in the pasture.

Absolutely!  This is one of our core demographics and one of the reasons we started the ranch. We wanted to expand on our past careers in healthcare to offer wellness experiences to the amazing people at these facilities. Our covered pavilion is just steps away from van or bus parking and is wheelchair accessible.  Since the alpacas are so social they will come in from the pasture and spend the visit with our guests. Visitors will be able to pet, handfeed and take pictures with the animals.  **We do have a nearby restroom but it is NOT currently wheelchair accessible.

We do offer hard copy Lost Mountain Alpaca Ranch gift certificates and e-gift cards to be used for tours, classes, events and the Farm Store.  They expire one year after purchase.

  •  We are not hiring at this time as the small staff that we have seems to be enough to keep the ranch operations running smoothly.  As recent retirees, we are trying to strike a nice balance between sharing our property and animals with the community while also enjoying our time off with our animals.  We may have a need in the future as we will be slowly expanding our herd and adding different breeds of animals.

We have decided not to take our herd offsite for requested opportunities.  They feel safer within the confines of the ranch as they are prey animals. Currently they only leave the ranch for advanced veterinary care.

We only breed to slowly expand our own herd but have elected not to be a breeder for sale.

Yes.  Our alpacas have recently appeared in TLC’s 90 Day: The Single Life Season 4 and the ranch and alpacas just completed a project with Jairpur Living’s new FINE Fibers collection.  We are open to future collaborations in the Film and Music industries.  Please message us at 404-360-6030 to see if the project would be a good fit for all of those involved.

We DO NOT allow dogs or outside animals on the property. Dogs are the largest predator to alpacas in the United States and our alpacas get very nervous when a dog arrives.  This reaction will not only compromise the health of our pregnant females, but it will also degrade the experience of the visit.  We also have a very large Livestock Guardian Dog on premises that is highly skilled in noticing anything in the canine family nearby and protecting his herd from them.  Thank you for your understanding as our top priorities are the health and welfare of our animals and the peaceful energy of the ranch.

Our private 1-hour and 2-hour Birthday Parties now have a max of 30 guests.  If you are searching for a venue to host a larger, private event reach out to us to discuss if it would be something that we could host at the ranch.  Pricing will be customized based on the size of the group, how long the event will be, how much extra time will be needed for set up and break down and how involved the alpacas would be.  We can host groups up to 150 guests but these events need to be planned well in advance as we bring in extra staff and more support for these larger events.

After hosting over 100 parties in the last 18 months, we have made some slight adjustments to our guidelines to provide the best party atmosphere for all of the guests and animals involved.  Our new party rules have a MAXIMUM guests limit of 30 people, limited decorations to protect the alpacas and the event must be cleaned up and completed at the end of the contracted 1 or 2 hour time frame.  Thank you in advance for understanding our new changes as we are trying to provide the most magical experience for all of those who are involved.
